Portmagee, June 2013

on Tue, 2013-06-04 23:31

Finally a break in the weather and some decent diving for the June bank holiday weekend down in Portmagee. A plankton bloom really limited the viz but we got all our dives in, including a trip to the Skelligs and everyone had a good time. If you don't know the Skelligs, they're a pair of rocky outcrops 9 miles offshore with an old monastic site on the larger one (Skelling Micheal) and thousands upon thousands of gannets nesting on the other (Skellig Beag). They're a tourist attraction in their own right, both above and below water and rightly so.

We've gone down to Portmagee every June bank holiday for a number of years now and it never fails to impress. From the sheer beauty of the place above water, to the great diving, to the good food and craic in The Moorings where we spent most of the time out of the water. We always meet up with other dive clubs down there and this year had two divers from Limerick SAC dive with us for the whole weekend and met up with old friends from other clubs in The Moorings in the evenings,
