Killary camping weekend

on Sun, 2012-07-22 21:10

Just back from a great weekend's diving on Inis Turk and camping on the north shore of Killary Harbour. No campsite, just wild camping on the side of a hill. I have to say I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it was great craic. We'll definitely have to do it again. Fair play to Thomas Moore for organising. And two great dives on Inis Turk into the bargain. Sure what more could you want. See the Facebook photo album for some great shots.

We steamed out from Killary on Saturday morning and dived Inis Turk, stopping off for packed lunch on the island in between. A couple of people whent fishing off the boats while we were out there and caught a load of mackerel. Those went down great fresh from the barbeque that same night along with wine, beer, and all sorts of other food that people brought with them, cooked on the BBQ and a couple of gas rings. Francis and his fire barrel were the centre of attention later in the night, genuis idea. I think it'll take me about two days to get the charcoal smell out of my clothes, but it'll be worth it. The tents survived, despite the force 8 winds in the middle of the night on Saturday, though some better than others :)
This was a new departure for the club, or at least it had been many years since the last time GSAC went camping, but we'll definitely have to do it again soon.
