Kilkee, July 2013

on Mon, 2013-07-15 09:20

What a great weekend! Perfect conditions at Kilkee set the scene for some excellent diving and good craic. Two boats, 15 divers and an overnight stay to enjoy the weather and holiday atmosphere.

The highlight for most people was the dive on Muragha Reef where we dropped in right beside the famous "chimney" and some lucky souls even got to end their dive by doing their ascent to 5m up through the chimney and their 3 minute safety stop on

Portmagee, June 2013

on Tue, 2013-06-04 23:31

Finally a break in the weather and some decent diving for the June bank holiday weekend down in Portmagee. A plankton bloom really limited the viz but we got all our dives in, including a trip to the Skelligs and everyone had a good time. If you don't know the Skelligs, they're a pair of rocky outcrops 9 miles offshore with an old monastic site on the larger one (Skelling Micheal) and thousands upon thousands of gannets nesting on the other (Skellig Beag). They're a tourist attraction in their own right, both above and below water and rightly so.

Trainee Weekend 2013

on Tue, 2013-04-16 12:27

Last weekend saw our annual trainee weekend in Killary Harbour.  Unfortunately the good weather didn't show up and spoilt the diving for the weekend.  Saturday morning saw the group arrive at Rosroe and and the braver members kit up for the first dive.  In all my years in the club I don't think we ever had 4 shore marshals before, but Saturday saw plenty of eager volunteers willing to leave their gear in the car  (Surprisingly all experienced divers).

Trainees First Dive 2013

on Mon, 2013-03-25 15:04

Sunday the 24th of April saw our newest batch of recruits take to the water on scuba for the first time.  We went to the old reliable Coral beach in Carraroe and were treated with great vizability and some fish life.

The easterly wind did make it very cold however but everyone braved it and got into the water.  Reports came back of Crabs, Urchins, starfish and pipefish.

Hopefully the start of a long summers diving.

English Rock

on Mon, 2013-03-18 20:12

Well after a gap of many years the club returned to dive English Rock today. The first of many if today was anything to go by. It used to be dived a lot back in the days of the Zodiacs but nobody there today had ever dived it before. As part of our 50th celebrations we're revisiting and rediscovering old haunts of the club from years gone by and this one has been on the list for a while, just needed the right conditions.
